Let’s start with a little Tapas.
These are Potatoes Bravas, a treat from Catalonia (Barcelona) that my husband is perfecting. Tapas are “small plates,” aka appetizer-sized meals. Tasty morsels of goodness to share with friends. I promise this has a point. So yes, I finished a book in four days. Let’s not get too excited. It was only 40K words, a novella, something you could probably read in three hours (never mind that it took me roughly 40 hours to write ). It’s an adventure about a guy working undercover for a dark organization who has to fake a relationship with a female smokejumper who accidentally walks into the camp and gets in over her head. So, fake dating with an escape through Alaska and secrets and all the good stuff! But here’s what I really love about this story (and it comes out next summer, so I’ll tell you more when we get closer to launch)… The theme is darkness and light. See, the hero, Crew, has been working undercover in this organization for over a year. Living among bad people (and pretending to be a bad person himself). Crew is a Christian…but the darkness is starting to seep in. It’s starting to eclipse the light. His thinking is turning futile, and his hope is diminishing. And then…light arrives in the form of a woman who brings truth. Namely, she’s a girl who knows her Bible. And suddenly the darkness starts to scatter as she brings the Word into his life. Which meant that all week long, I was fed with Truth. The Word. Light. To be honest, I’ve never written a book quite so quickly in my life. And I think it was because I was gobbling up inspiration. The plot centers around a poison the evildoers are trying to use to destroy our food source (among other things) and the only remedy is to burn the source once the poison is deployed. At one point, the homesteaders ask: Can we wait to see if the poison has any real effect? To which the answer is: The longer we wait to test the effect, the deeper the poison gets into the soil. And then the impact is much greater. I’m just going to leave that thought there, and offer this verse: “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.”

Sort of like Tapas. Little nourishing meals. (I said I’d get there. But admittedly, it was a little weak. Thanks for not deleting me.) Speaking of tasty nuggets, can I suggest some excellent reading?
