A different kind of Tuesday

Susan Books, Just for Fun

Some people may think that all an author does is sit at home, dreaming up stories, hanging out with the voices in her head.

Actually, that’s not far from the truth.  But, in order to have the Voices show up in our heads, we need voices in our lives. Real, not imagined.

Here are some of the Voices in my life a couple weeks ago on a Tuesday.

This is Jim.  Jim is my first stop of the day.  He works at the local Super America, but his real job is Official Day Brightener and Joke Teller.

Jim “Why did the cowboy ride his horse?”

Me, “I don’t know.”

Jim, “Because he was too heavy to carry.”

See?  Day Brightener.

Working with Jim every day is Jeff.

Jeff puts up with Jim and plays an excellent straight man. He is also in all the theater productions in town, which attests to his ability to keep a straight face in light of Jim’s jokes.  We love Jeff.

We also love Lynn who owns Super America.

And not just because she sells my books.

But because she reads them too!

Notice Lynn is now working somewhere else! That’s right, in this town you never know where people will pop up.

Usually however, it’s at the local Java Moose, where Ann and her crew know everyone’s favorite drink.

“Is that a skinny vanilla latte for you today, Susie May?  Or a White Chocolate Mocha?”  (By the way, if you follow the www.mybooktherapy blogs, and the Deep Haven books, Ann is my model for Kathy the coffee shop owner).

I’ll take the mocha, Ann, because I’m on my way to the big playoff football game today, where Debbie is waiting for me.

With her umbrella.  And slicker. Because she’s smart and realized that when you sit out in the rain for two hours, you might get soaked.

Unlike me, and my pal, Coach’s wife, Lori who came decked in our Team Gear (and no rain gear!)

But that’s okay, hubby didn’t bring anything either.

By the way, here’s how the game turned out:

One of my very favorite Tuesdays!

Thank you to all the amazing Voices in my small town who fill my head with ideas!  XO!
