I wanted to say hi and make sure you were surviving winter!
I’ve been busy the last couple months. Went to Arizona to work on a project, then to Florida for my birthday, then to Austin for a business meeting and then up north with friends to say goodbye to the writing cabin. (we’re selling it March 31st!)
But it was the event this weekend that made the biggest impact on my life lately.
I want to a funeral of a friend. Actually, I hadn’t talked to him in years, but we went to high school together. He had an autoimmune disease and died during his third liver transplant.
He was 56.
For the last eighteen years of his life, he couldn’t work. But let me tell you what he did.
He invested in his children. Two of his sons spoke at the funeral telling what an impact he made on their lives and their faith. He gave them a foundation to continue the journey without him.
He invested in his marriage. His wife and he were together for thirty years. They laughed together on the last day of his life. He left her in a good place.
When his sons spoke, they dropped this piece of wisdom from Danny: Don’t worry about the things you can’t control.
I went home and I thought about the things I can control. Here’s my list:
- My words
- My thoughts
- What I eat and drink
- My entertainment
- My non-essential spending
- To some extent, how I move
- And, THE THINGS I’M GRATEFUL FOR
That’s it. I don’t control reviews, sales, the actions or thoughts of others, or even how life reacts to my choices.
But I can be thankful for all the amazing things in my life. Like my family. And you, my reader friends.
Because of you, The Way of the Brave hit the ECPA best-seller list for February! Thank you!!
And, I just LOVE this review: (Thank you, KIM!!)
In the meantime, I just finished proofing the galleys for Heart of a Hero, out in June!
I know it’s March. It’s gray and gloomy out. But if I look around, I can find something to be grateful for.
Hopefully, you can too.
Speaking of…I’m off to see this cutie this weekend.
Hope your weekend is as beautiful! Thank you for reading!
