Just curious…

Rel Mollet Book Excerpts, Books, Just for Fun, On Writing

So, first, thank you for all the sweet reviews about Fraser! He’s quietly been climbing the charts while you’ve been leaving kind reviews, and I’m grateful.

So, I’m just back from a fun writing retreat with 8 authors and my business partner for a publishing company I run (Sunrise Publishing) – and we got to chatting about book themes, or the things that people love in a story.

(BTW, this is my biz partner Lindsay Harrel and me, hanging out at the beach)

So, I’m curious – what are your favorite themes?

I’ve put together a little poll. I’m working on a new series, so I’d love to hear what you love! (and, for everyone who answers, I’ll be drawing a $20 Amazon gift card from the responders!)

What is your favorite theme? (click here, and pick up to 5!)

In the meantime, if you haven’t picked up Fraser yet, here’s a little taste!

“My brother is not an assassin!”
Fraser rounded on Pippa the moment the door closed to the quarters where they’d confined him. Staff quarters, because there wasn’t a window in the room. Just a very small bunk and, thankfully, a toilet, because the sea had kicked up, and with it, a weird and frustrating bout of seasickness.
Or maybe that was just his frustration roiling over.
Could be his body rejecting a third jolt of electricity in three days. Hello.
“Keep your voice down. The prince and princess are due on board in a minute, and we don’t need you shouting.”
Pippa had changed, wore a fresh Lauchtenland uniform. Blue, with a blue suit-jacket and gold cuffs, her hair primly back.
And she smelled good too. While he felt like something that had been dragged from the depths of the sea. Salt in his hair, on his skin.
“Where’s Creed?”
“Being interrogated.”
“He’d better have all his fingernails when you guys are finished.”
“We’re not those kind of interrogators. Wow, it’s small in here.” She touched her head where she’d bumped it on the bunk.
He just looked at her. She stood about three feet away, taking up all his pacing space. Okay, maybe he didn’t have to shout.
Just wanted to. Still, he schooled his voice. “What is wrong with you people! You don’t just tase someone. Sheesh.”
“It could have been worse.”
“How?”
“We could have shot him.”
He just stared at her for a long moment. “Shot him. For what? He was surrendering.”
“He was approaching the princess—”
“Probably to ask her for help. Maybe she’d also promised him that nothing would happen to him.”
Pippa’s eyes briefly narrowed, then she cleared her throat. “We didn’t know that.”
“He spent three days with her!” Yeah, he was shouting again, but he didn’t care if the entire country heard him. “If he wanted to hurt her, he would have done it already. He clearly cares for her. You saw him dive in the sea to grab her. He doesn’t swim well, by the way.”
She swallowed. “He was in a stressful situation—people are unpredictable in a stressful situation.”
“I was right there. I wasn’t going to let him do anything.”
“And if you couldn’t stop him? We couldn’t take that chance.”
“So you had to tase me too?”
Her mouth tightened.
He stared at her. “Did you learn nothing about me when we were together?”
She sighed. “I’m sorry it had to end this way.”
“Yeah, me too, Natasha. Just stay away from me.”
