I hope you had a fantastic Independence Day! Up here in beautiful Minnesota, it rained. And rained. And rained. We did have a brief lull in the action from 9:00 to 10:00 PM and at that moment every single person in Minnesota who likes to shoot fireworks in their backyard simultaneously lit up the sky like the bombing over London.
Upon which my dog did this. To be clear, that is an 80 lb. dog sitting on my lap, trembling with fear. Full disclosure—this wonderful 80 lb. dog is a little bit of a weenie anyway. He’s afraid of thunder and the lawn mower and the Vroom and my husband’s electric razor and my electric toothbrush. But admittedly, fireworks can be terrifying, so my heart went out to him. As you can see, I am not attending fireworks. I’m in my room attending to my terrified dog watching The Tomorrow War. I’m not sure why I decided to watch that movie on Independence Day but it just felt right. Meanwhile, my husband was at his family reunion picnic in Iowa. I stayed home to “work.” (To my credit, I did plot a new book that I’m going to be diving into next week.) Before you start feeling sorry for me…do not. I had a week full of epic fun with friends who came to visit. I loved hanging out with my writer friends who graced me with an overnight on their way to the airport. In this group is my business partner Lindsay Harrell, and my great friends Alena Tauraniun, Gabriell Meyer, and Melissa Tagg. All fantastic authors. We talked business and writing life and burnout and planning for the future. (Which maybe got me in the mood for The Tomorrow War.) I also hung out with my long time college buddy Peter and his beautiful wife Melanie. There may or may not have been a number of charcuterie boards and a glass or two of wine (not all at once!). Oh, and Jubal. Because there were a few early fireworks. Thankfully Melanie is a dog lover! (Sorry, Mel!) So yeah, I had all sorts of pre-Independence Day fun. Now it’s time to get back to work and dive into my next story. But in the meantime, we have some fun things to attend to, right? First—a winner! Thank you to everyone who participated in last week’s contest for Tari Faris’s new novel, You’re the Reason. The answer to the question, “What was the hero’s nickname while he was an American Ninja Warrior?” is… The Storm. The winner is… Jean Brown! If you haven’t read this fantastic story, you will love it. Deep Haven meets Michigan with the boy next door, unrequited love, and second chances. Sooo good. It’s available on Amazon Kindle (and Kindle Unlimited). It’s also in print at all your favorite retailers. Loving this review: Second—One Last Chance is now out on audiobook! I am so excited that it is available in the Susan May Warren store right now. (It will appear on other platforms over the next couple weeks.) If you want to get your hands on it before that July road trip I have a special deal for you this week only. Get the One Last Chance audiobook now and nab the One Last Shot (book one) audiobook for FREE! If you haven’t jumped into this fun series, this is a great way to experience the fantastic dual narration of Adam Gold and Cynthia Farrell. I’m hearing such great feedback about having both the female and the male voice and I love it too. It’s something new and different, and I think you’re going to love both stories. Finally—if you’ve already read One Last Shot and One Last Chance, then One Last Promise is available at the preorder price of $5.99 in the Susan May Warren Fiction store. Early access starts next Tuesday, so grab this at the discounted price now! That’s all the fun for now. Thank you for reading and here’s hoping you have a sunny and beautiful weekend! (And if it’s raining, go read something—preferably without an 80 lb. dog on your lap!) Warmly, P.S. Do you remember when you used to go roller skating? I do. There was this place called Cheapskates near my house and I hung out there every Friday or Saturday night when I was in middle school. (Anyone else find their first crush during a Snowball dance? Bueller? Bueller? Yeah, I thought so!) Anyhoooo my good friend Rachel wrote a book about a skating rink called Meet Me at the Starlight. It’s about the magic that happens when two people come together to try to save the town skating rink. Romantic, nostalgic, a beach read, and another great story by Rachel Hauck. Pick it up at Amazon or your favorite retailer. |
